San Francisco, CA – Twitter is expanding its publishing capabilities with the goal of letting users write entire books directly on the platform.
The social network’s Articles feature, formerly called Notes, will be overhauled to support long-form writing integrated with mixed media, according to owner Elon Musk. Users may eventually “publish a book if you want,” Musk stated in a tweet announcing the changes.

Articles are part of Twitter Developing Tools for monetizing content. The company plans to share ad revenue from Articles with creators, potentially providing an incentive for book authors to publish natively on Twitter.
The announcement comes after Twitter discontinued its newsletter platform Revue last year. The expanded Articles feature fills that gap by integrating Substack-like capabilities, allowing publications to embed written content.
Letting users compile professional books on Twitter represents a major shift from its origins as a microblogging site confined to 140-character tweets. The change aligns with Musk’s goal of transforming the platform into an “everything app” and centralizing more activity directly on Twitter.

However, some question whether the screen-centric Twitter interface can support smooth long-form reading and writing. The success may depend on optimizing Articles for mobile devices and e-reader apps.
Nonetheless, opening Twitter up for long-form books and articles could draw more creators to the platform while helping publishers reach built-in Twitter audiences. The impact on readership, authorship, and Twitter’s revenue will come into focus as the new article capabilities launch.
