The popular and humorous Twitter account Liam Nissan Twitter Account Suspend Again, just months after being previously banned under past ownership. This time, outraged fans are placing the blame squarely on new owner Elon Musk.
Liam Nissan amassed over 800,000 followers for his funny tweets sharing exaggerated tales of working for the Nissan automobile company. However, his account was abruptly shut down earlier this year on claims it impersonated the Nissan brand.
After public outcry over the move, the account was restored in March 2022 after negotiations between its anonymous owner and Twitter. Its posts resumed poke fun at corporate life and automotive culture, much to the delight of fans.
But now, Liam Nissan’s Twitter jesting has come to another sudden stop. As of November 2022, his account is again suspended with a message stating it “violated Twitter rules.”
Many inconsolable fans were quick to point fingers at the platform’s new owner, Elon Musk, who took over Twitter in late October. Musk has made controversial changes like verifying accounts without proof and laying off half of Twitter’s staff.
“This has Elon written all over it,” tweeted one Liam supporter. “He let Trump and Kanye back but not Liam?! #FreeNissan.”

Others directly called out Musk for hypocrisy in his promises to promote free speech while targeting accounts like Liam Nissan that bring joy to Twitter users. The hashtag #FreeNissan began trending as fans rallied for the account’s reinstatement.
“Elon Musk suspends one of the last remaining sources of joy on this site. Reinstate @liamnissan now!” tweeted popular YouTuber Hasan Piker. His sentiment resonated with over 18,000 retweets.
No official reason for the suspension has been shared by Twitter, so the intent behind it remains unclear. Musk has not directly addressed the Liam Nissan issue despite the growing public pressure.
But some speculate that Nissan Motor Company may have issued trademark complaints under Twitter’s newer, laxer policies. This could force the parody account to permanently change its username and identity.
“Nissan Motors are clearly trying to protect their brand,” explained social media analyst Louise Herring. “But Musk has shifted power back to corporations versus individual users. He could easily intervene but refuses.”
The anonymous person behind Liam did a post on Tuesday from a new account, though only sharing an emoji of a wilted flower. When followers asked for updates, he responded: “No updates just vibes.”
While Liam Nissan considers his next steps, supporters continue rallying online with petitions to bring the account back for good.
“Liam Nissan brought levity to this app amid so much hate and misinformation,” tweeted one petition organizer. “His suspension is unjustified. Until he’s back, we will make our voices heard!”
If Elon Musk wants to make true to his promises to enable free speech, reinstating Liam Nissan is an easy way to prove it according to fans. They aim to keep the #FreeNissan movement active until their beloved Twitter is restored.

“We’re staying loud about this,” vowed popular Liam supporter @NissansBiggestFan. “Liam’s jokes harmed no one. Twitter needs that humor. That’s why we’ll keep fighting for his return.”
Only time will tell whether the pleas of loyal followers are enough to sway Twitter’s new owner. But the loss of Liam Nissan has certainly struck a chord in the ongoing debates over the platform’s increasing unpredictability.
